Gov. Abbott names New Braunfels a 'film-friendly' city

New Braunfels could see more film crews making their way into town in the near future.

On Nov. 13, Gov. Greg Abbott announced a number of trainings and certifications were completed to earn New Braunfels the title “Film Friendly Texas Community” by the Texas Film Commission, joining more than 175 municipalities in Texas that went through the certification process.

The backstory

The training and certification process is meant to show that a community is capable of matching local businesses with production-related needs, spurring on-site spending at local businesses, and creating jobs for Texas-based crew members and local residents among other economic benefits, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

“This Film Friendly Texas designation lets film production companies know that New Braunfels is serious about attracting their business, which will stimulate the local economy through the hiring of Texas cast and crew who will spend money on local goods and services,” New Braunfels Mayor Neal Linnartz said in the statement. “Filming opportunities will bring more awareness about New Braunfels as a destination for travel in Texas.”

From 2007-2023, the Texas Film Commission documented more than $2 billion in local spending and 183,000 film production-related jobs created across the state.
