The Samaritan Inn, a nonprofit comprehensive housing stability program, has a new outdoor recreation activity on site for residents.
Construction on a donated pickleball court at the organization’s East McKinney campus began in May and was completed in July, Chief Development Officer Kellie Maynard said. The court and pickleball supplies were donated by Impact Activities and the Courts of McKinney Tennis and Pickleball Center, which have previously held free summer camps for youth residents of The Samaritan Inn, Maynard said. The project was also supported by JOOLA, Grossman Law Office, Altec Styslinger Foundation, Prime Courts and PPA Pickleball.
“We love when businesses step up to support our men, women and children, giving them the opportunities everyone deserves of [having] a normal life full of fun and healthy activities,” Maynard said in an emailed statement.
The Samaritan Inn, which was founded in 1984, offers shelter to unhoused single men, women and families, and has the capacity to serve up to 226 residents, per its website. The organization also offers support for food insecurity. The Samaritan Inn saw another expansion earlier this year with the opening of a new pet kennel.
