The National Register of Historic Places has added The Texas Pool to its list of locations with historic or architectural significance. The Texas-shaped neighborhood pool opened in 1961 and “marked a new phase in the trend of applying the Texas shape to an ever-increasing variety of objects,” according to the Texas Historical Commission. The designation means the property is deemed worthy of historic preservation, but it does not impose any requirements on the landowner. The pool is located at 901 Springbrook Drive, Plano. 972-881-8392. www.texaspool.org
