The city of Austin has placed a guardrail on the southern portion of Cesar Chavez Street underneath the South Lamar Boulevard bridge to divide vehicle traffic from users of the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail.
The project to install the 480-foot rail began on Monday, Sept. 10, and was scheduled to end on Monday, Sept. 24. However, the project was finished on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
While work was ongoing, a segment of the trail along Cesar Chavez Street between B.R. Reynolds Drive and Sandra Muraida Way was closed during some hours, along with periodic closures of the vehicle eastbound lane on Cesar Chavez Street. Both the trail and the roadway are now fully open.
