The tallest building in Austin and the tallest residential tower west of the Mississippi River is set to reach its highest point.
The Independent, a 58-story, 363-unit condominium tower at the corner of West Third Street and West Avenue in downtown Austin, is set to open later this year. The tower has been under construction since December 2015.
When the building "tops out"—or reaches its full height—this weekend, it will rise to 685 feet, making it two feet taller than the 683-foot tall Austonian skyscraper at 200 Congress Ave., Austin.
Condos at The Independent will range from 675 to 3,485 square feet. Units will range in price from about $400,000 to more than $3.5 million. The $300 million building includes amenities such as a dog park and lounge, a children's playroom and playground, a spa area, and a sky lounge.
