Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women in Lakeway began providing OB/GYN services in June in response to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Lakeway ending its labor and delivery services that same month, said Dr. Melanie Belt, Chief OB/GYN Officer at Texas Children’s.

In June, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Lakeway halted labor and delivery services, including six labor and delivery rooms and 18 postpartum beds, due to demographic shifts in the Lakeway area, where population growth is largely occurring among adults age 65 and older, according to a statement from Baylor Scott & White and previous reporting from Community Impact.
Yet, Belt believes there is still a need for OB/GYN care in the area.
“Texas Children’s believes that there still needs to be a clinic there to service that growing population,” Belt said. “If they have abnormal bleeding or pelvic pain or anything like that ... they would have to leave their community to receive care.”
The details
Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women opened in January and began providing OB/GYN services including annual exams, prenatal care, menopausal therapy, birth control, care for endometriosis, and other obstetrical and gynecological treatments in June.
Although patients can receive prenatal care at the Lakeway location, deliveries will be performed at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women in north Austin.
