Seafood, brunch and wine: 7 dining updates from Smithville to Lakeway

After its previous host site closed in January, owner Kris Martinez is now serving Louisiana-style crawfish outside of Mexican bar and grill Santo Patio in Del Valle. He called his boils, which are available for purchase from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, “straight-from-the-bayou spicy.”

The cafe opened last month in Hyde Park, serving all-day brunch and dinner, including French favorites and deli classic dishes alongside coffee cocktails and dessert. Menu highlights include brioche French toast, croque madame, French onion soup, duck leg deconstructed cassoulet and chicken paillard.

Set on 73 acres, this winery offers a tasting room overlooking a two-acre lake where guests can enjoy wine made exclusively from Texas-grown grapes as well as small bites like Neapolitan-style flatbread, herbed cheese spreads and charcuterie. The winery currently offers five wines—each bottle featuring artwork paired with a backstory tied to its label.

The Florida-based breakfast, brunch and lunch chain opened its first Bastrop location last month in Bastrop's Burleson Crossing East shopping center. Open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the restaurant offers healthy breakfast bowls, specialty pancakes and unique items like the Chickichanga—the restaurant’s take on a chimichanga.

After a temporary closure on April 6, this Lakeway restaurant will reopen next week as a farm-to-table dining concept under new owner Haythem Dawlett. The restaurant will offer a rotating seasonal menu, with ingredients regionally sourced from local farmers, including fresh Gulf Coast seafood multiple times per week.

Tucked into the rolling hills of Lakeway, the family-owned Brazilian steakhouse has offered traditional churrasco dining for nearly a decade. Guests start with a self-serve salad bar filled with more than 34 options, then use red and green cards to signal trained chefs, called guachos, to bring tableside servings of 14 cuts of meat—including picanha, lamb chops and filet mignon—carved straight onto plates.

“At one point, we had nothing but nephews here helping to grow that dream,” she said.

The restaurant delivered free food and water to community members during the Feb. 2021 ice storm, and it donates 10-12 fully cooked turkeys every Thanksgiving and Christmas.
