The city of Keller plans to remark Keller-Smithfield Road once the Texas Department of Transportation completes its FM 1709 signal upgrades.
TxDOT has ongoing FM 1709 intersection projects at Rufe Snow Drive and Keller-Smithfield. The intersection upgrades are part of TxDOT’s FM 1709 signal maintenance project, which started in Keller at the Cindy Street intersection May 24 and has continued eastward intersection by intersection through Keller and Southlake, according to a Keller press release.
In an Oct. 14 Facebook post, the city of Keller wrote TxDOT had mismarked southbound Keller-Smithfield Road. The Keller Public Works Department reached out to TxDOT to have it corrected and wrote that it would make the changes itself if TxDOT was not willing or able to do so.
Keller Public Works Director Alonzo Liñán said the markings show two left-turn lanes and one lane to go straight or turn right, but the city had planned for one left-turn lane, one through lane and one right-turn lane. Liñán said TxDOT had based the lane assignments “on traffic counts that are older than what the city is using.”
