American Airlines opened four of its 10 new gates in the Terminal A pier at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport Oct. 21.
The new gates are A10, A11, A13 and A15. The remaining six gates will open over the next few weeks as part of the pier-style expansion, according to a news release from the Fort Worth-based airline.
The 140,000-square-foot addition follows a similar pier-style expansion at Terminal C, which opened in June and added nine gates.
“Opening the new Terminal A pier is an exciting milestone for our customers, team members and all of North Texas,” said Jim Moses, American’s senior vice president of DFW Hub Operations. “This investment is about more than expanding capacity at DFW. It’s about strengthening our network, enhancing the travel experience and creating more opportunities to connect customers to destinations around the world through our largest hub.”
Zooming in
Terminal A will become the airline’s busiest terminal, with more than 200 departures on peak days, according to American Airlines officials.
The pier features updated seating with power outlets at every seat, electronic boarding gates, and expanded dining and shopping options, according to a news release. Work on the project started in 2024 and used modular construction, with sections built on the airport campus and then transported to the pier.
The same construction method is being used for the 31-gate Terminal F, which will serve as American Airlines’ flagship terminal when completed next year, according to a news release.
Terminal F will feature The Provisions by Admirals Club, one of American Airlines’ lounges.
Quote of note
“From new terminals and gates to improved roadways and access, DFW is expanding while enhancing the experience of moving through one of the world’s busiest airports,” said Kenneth Buchanan, DFW Airport’s executive vice president and chief revenue officer. “DFW serves tens of millions of travelers each year, and the Terminal A Pier strengthens our ability to deliver a memorable, guest-centered experience. This is also an opportunity for local businesses and our partners to help create an unmistakable sense of place when arriving or departing at DFW.”
