Speed limit changes have been approved for several Fort Worth-area schools, including one in Northwest ISD and the other in Keller ISD, within the city limits of Fort Worth.
The changes were approved at the Fort Worth City Council meeting Oct. 27.
What's happening?
The changes extend the school zone near W.R. Hatfield Elementary, part of NISD, and Vista Ridge Middle School, part of KISD.
At W.R. Hatfield Elementary, located between Redgrave Drive and Chaplin Drive, a speed limit of 20 miles per hour now runs from 180 feet north of Blackhorse Trail to 290 feet south of Kirkham Way, along Chaplin Drive. The previous school zone was 155 feet north on Blackhorse Trail and 180 feet south of Kirkham Way, according to city documents.
What else?
The changes affect two roads near Vista Ridge Middle School, which is located west of the North Riverside Drive and Thompson Road intersection.
A 25 miles per hour speed limit will be in effect between the 8050 and 8200 blocks of North Riverside Drive, spanning from 130 feet north of Steel Street to 200 feet south of Monterra Boulevard.
The Thompson Road speed limit was 20 miles per hour, which previously spanned the 3900 to 4400 blocks, according to city documents. The speed limit will remain the same, though the school zone will now span the 3000 to 4300 blocks of Thompson Road, running from 540 feet east of the I-35W frontage road to 80 feet west of Waterside Trail.
