More than $4 million in work will be underway at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport after Fort Worth City Council awarded four contracts at the April 28 meeting.
The largest contract is $3.77 million to Mario Sinacola and Sons Excavating Inc. for construction the first phase of the Taxiway Hotel extension project, paid through a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Other work will be for repair, construction management and engineering services, according to city documents.
What’s happening
The Taxiway Hotel extension will add 575 feet of space for future development and access for current and future tenants at the airport, according to city documents. There will also be 700 feet of asphalt shoulder added on the south side of the existing taxiway to be in compliance with FAA requirements.
Roger Venables, the aviation director for the city of Fort Worth, said the Taxiway Hotel extension is important because it will allow access to the airport for aerospace company Embraer, which announced a $70 million expansion for maintenance, repair and overhaul operations in 2024.
Council also approved a contract for $667,890 to Jacobs Engineering Group for construction management services for the Taxiway Hotel extension project.
Jacobs Engineering Group provided the design services for the extension project, according to previous reporting.
The approach
Jacobs Engineering Group was also given a design contract for $269,275 for a pavement management report. The company would perform a condition evaluation on the current pavement at the airport to help prioritize maintenance and rehabilitation needs to extend the pavement service life, according to city documents.
The final report will include a summary of the findings, recommendations and estimated cost for repairs. The cost is funded through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, according to city documents.
Council also approved the designs for the second phase of the joint resealing and pavement repairs for Runaway 16R-34L for $92,300. That contract has not been awarded yet, but the funding is also from the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, according to city documents.
The background
Earlier this year, the city applied for a $1.5 million infrastructure grant from the FAA for airport joint reseal, pavement improvements, relocation of Taxiway Papa fence and road and extension of Taxiway Papa.
Jacobs Engineering handled the design work for the Taxiway Papa project, according to previous reporting.
The Texas Comptroller's Office reported that Perot Field had more than 628 million pounds of cargo arrive and depart in 2024.
