Q&A: Meet the candidates running for Texas House District 98

Why are you running for this position?

I’m running to save our public schools from chronic underfunding that harms our children, property values, community values and future. I’ll fight for working families, seniors and veterans struggling to pay health insurance, property taxes and electricity. I’ll work for a Texas budget that prioritizes people over corporations.

What are the biggest challenges facing this district?

HD98 is struggling with fully funding our public schools, returning curriculum control to the local level and defunding private school vouchers. Next is fixing the health insurance crisis; Texas has the greatest number of uninsured people in the U.S. Ensuring affordability in housing, childcare and energy are paramount.

What are your priorities for the future of Texas education?

We must demand budget transparency and a separate segregated education fund so we know our property taxes are not diverted elsewhere. School funding must be based on enrollment, not attendance, and the basic allotment per student must be increased. We must immediately defund private school vouchers and support academic integrity.

What projects are most important for the legislature to focus on for the future of Texas?

The demands of population growth, data centers and climate change put our future quality of life and safety at risk. Texas must expand and strengthen our energy grid, water usage/supply and environmental regulations. We must focus on our people, ensuring access to health care, food security, housing and education.

Why are you running for this position?

I’m running to bring proven conservative leadership to Austin and deliver results for House District 98. As Keller’s mayor, I cut taxes, strengthened public safety and invested in infrastructure. I want to bring that same practical, accountable approach to the Texas House.

What are the biggest challenges facing this district?

Families are being squeezed by rising property taxes and everyday costs while rapid growth puts pressure on roads, infrastructure, schools and public safety. We must protect our workforce by ensuring our children receive a strong education and fight for greater accountability in government so Texas remains affordable, safe and prosperous.

What are your priorities for the future of Texas education?

I support fully funding public schools, raising teacher pay, expanding parental rights and ensuring dollars reach classrooms. We must also reform how we fund education in this state and get rid of an antiquated school recapture system that takes over $60 million away from our local public school districts.

What projects are most important for the legislature to focus on for the future of Texas?

The legislature should focus on permanent property-tax relief, infrastructure that keeps pace with growth, reliable and affordable energy, strong schools, border security, public safety and workforce development. We should remove unnecessary regulations, cut government waste and make long-term investments that keep Texas the best place to live and work.
