There are four candidates running for Roanoke City Council Ward 1 in the upcoming special election set for May 2.
What you need to know
Roanoke Council called a special election at the Jan. 27 council meeting to fill the vacated council positions for Ward 1 and Ward 2. Former council members Bryan Moyers and Hogan Page stepped down because they are moving out of Roanoke and can no longer serve on council, according to previous reporting.
John Pullen, Jeff Barksdale, Victor Molaschi and Donald J. Glacy are now competing for the vacant position in Ward 1.
Roanoke is a home-ruled city with the city divided into three wards with two council members serving each ward, according to the city charter. Only residents living in that ward may vote on the elected official for that area.
Early voting for the May 2 special election will run from April 20-28. Residents can check if they are registered to vote at the Denton County website. Polling locations for Denton County are currently unavailable.
