Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said in a 2:41 p.m. Facebook post that the Waller County Office of Emergency Management has contacted Amazon and received additional information.
WCOEM learned the source of the positive coronavirus case was at a smaller Amazon facility near the Katy area and not the Amazon Distribution Center at 31555 US 90, Brookshire.
WCOEM also confirmed the employee was not a Katy or Waller County resident.
In a 4:58 p.m. Facebook post, Duhon stated: "As of the time of this post, Waller County has not received any information that we have a confirmed case in Waller County. That could still change at any time."
Update 1:27 p.m., March 24
An Amazon employee in the Katy area is among the hundreds of people who have tested positive for coronavirus, according to the company.
The popular online retailer says the confirmed case is a member of the management team at a delivery station in the Katy area. The company added that the employee is receiving medical care and is in quarantine.
According to Amazon, the company has contacted employees at the site and asked for anyone who had close contact with this person to self-quarantine for 14 days.
"We are supporting the individual who is recovering in quarantine. We are following all guidelines from local officials about the operation at our building and taking extreme measures to ensure the safety of those at the building," Amazon said in a statement.
Waller County Judge Trey Duhon issued the following statement on Facebook: "We are aware of the news story that Amazon in Brookshire area has a confirmed case of COVID-19 with one of its employees. The [Waller County Office of Emergency Management] is following up with Amazon on this and we will provide additional information as it is obtained."
