A new trustee will join the Tomball ISD board of trustees in June.

The board unanimously agreed May 14 to appoint Justin Unser to Position 6, a vacancy left by former trustee Sam Gregson’s resignation Feb. 20.

“We had some excellent people apply, [and] it made me feel good [about] the quality of individuals that wanted to serve the community [and] serve the school board,” board member John McStravick said during the meeting. “We really appreciate those people willing and wanting to dedicate their time, wanting to volunteer their time to the board. Justin, I think, will be a great fit.”

Eligible candidates could have applied from March 18-29 for consideration to fill the vacancy.

TISD Director of Communications and Marketing Allison McClain said the district could not share further information about Unser before he is sworn in as a board member. Unser will be sworn in during the board’s next meeting June 11, she said.

“[I was] very impressed by the diversity and variety of those who made application and pleased that our board did things in a way that was [a] very structured, very thoughtful, solid process leading up to interviews,” board Vice President Michael Pratt said. “I am very confident that as I leave this meeting, I can go out in our community and say we had a very good process [to select a trustee]—that’s very important to me.”

Once sworn in, Unser’s term will continue until November 2020, according to meeting information.
