The Tomball ISD board of trustees is accepting applications for a vacancy created by longtime trustee Sam Gregson, who resigned in late February. The board voted March 5 to appoint a person to fill the vacant Position 6, according to a March 18 district news release.

To apply for a place on the list of candidates to fill the vacancy, a number of eligibility requirements must be met. According to the release, interested persons must be:

  • a U.S. citizen;

  • age 18 or older on the date of appointment;

  • a registered voter in Tomball ISD by March 29;

  • a TISD resident for six months prior to March 29; and

  • a resident of Texas for 12 months prior to March 29.

These qualifications must continue to be met while the candidate serves on the board of trustees.

Gregson was last re-elected in November 2016, running unopposed for his position, according to Harris County election information. As trustees serve four-year terms, the appointed candidate would finish out Gregson's unexpired term, up for election in November 2020.

Eligible candidates can file an application with the executive assistant of the school board. Applications are available at the John P. Neubauer Administration Building, 310 S. Cherry St., Tomball, from March 18-29 at 4 p.m.
