Previously set to begin construction later this year, the Grand Parkway Town Center has hit another round of delays as NewQuest Properties continues to seek quality tenants for its proposed 63-acre shopping center in Tomball, NewQuest Properties associate Austin Alvis said in a June 5 email. He said the shopping center will not begin construction this year.

"We are delayed to better evolve our tenant [and] user line up to best reflect the needs of the community and the changing commerce environment," Alvis said. "It's a large upfront investment to develop the site, and we want to partner with tenants we're confident will be successful over the long term. Those have changed a bit recently, and we hope to have more updates later this year as to progress."

The Grand Parkway Town Center is a 450,000-square-foot development slated for the southwest corner of the Grand Parkway and Hwy. 249 in Tomball.

The shopping center was first scheduled to open this summer and then delayed to opening in late 2019—according to a December 2017 statement from Alvis—before shifting its construction timeline again this spring.

In March 2017, Kroger Marketplace, First Choice Emergency Room, the UPS Store, Akashi Asian Fusion, Great Clips and Venus Nails Spa were confirmed for the shopping center. A February site plan created by NewQuest Properties features proposed retail and dining options, such as Dick's Sporting Goods, Petco, Chick-fil-A, Whataburger, Cracker Barrel, LA Fitness, Petco, Raising Cane's and a proposed 1,150-seat theater.

"The good news is that we have a long-term commitment to see that the site gets the highest and best use for the community, and we will continue to work toward that end," Alvis said.
