Kroger representatives said it is too early to comment on specific features the Tomball location will include. However, Kroger Marketplaces offer home goods, bed and bath products, small appliances and toys, in addition to grocery items, according to the company website.

Kroger Marketplace is the latest confirmed tenant for the 63-acre shopping center. Other confirmed tenants include First Choice Emergency Room, the UPS Store, Akashi Asian Fusion, Great Clips, Pediatric Dentist and Venus Nails Spa.

During its Feb. 6 meeting, Tomball City Council met with representatives from NewQuest to discuss annexation of the 153-acre tract of land. In May 2015, the council had approved a limited purpose annexation agreement with Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 273, which includes the tract.

Tomball City Manager George Shackelford said a limited purpose annexation allowed the city to receive only half of the 2-cent sales tax revenue, as METRO Houston—which reaches into the MUD’s jurisdiction—received the other half.

“The best alternative was to do a full annexation, and that would trump the METRO tax,” Shackelford said. “[Annexation] will allow the full 2 cents of sales tax to be shared on an agreed arrangement [with NewQuest].”

Public hearings will be held March 6 and 13 before the council can vote to approve the annexation.
