Groundbreaking on The Ritz-Carlton Residences took place Oct. 2 on the Lake Woodlands site where Howard Hughes has announced a luxury condominium will be built.

The development is located on the last large-scale residential site on Lake Woodlands, developers said. As of an Oct. 3 news release, 69% of the condos had been sold.

The project has been described by developers as the first standalone Ritz-Carlton condomiums in Texas, offering a country club atmosphere on an 8-acre site with 1,200 feet of lakefront shoreline.

How it started

The Ritz-Carlton Residences are designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects and will feature 111 private residences, according to Howard Hughes. It will include 15,000 square feet of interior space as well as 3 acres of outdoor amenities.

Amenities at the facility will include:
  • Concierge service
  • Private dining rooms
  • Wine cellar
  • Library with a private garden
  • Fitness center
  • Sauna rooms
  • Multisport virtual simulator room
How it's going

A website for the Residences shows options on the building's 15 floors for various floorplans, including options for one to four bedrooms as well as garden residences, or maisonettes, and penthouses.

A sales gallery for the condos launched in April at 9950 Woodloch Forest Drive, Ste. 1350.

The groundbreaking event was attended by Howard Hughes officials, including Jay Cross, president; Bonnie Wedemeyer, executive vice president of national condominium sales and strategy; Jim Carman, president of the Houston region; and CEO David O'Reilly. It was also attended by Sarah Khalifa, vice president of mixed-use development at Marriott International, and Paul Whalen, partner with Robert A.M. Stern Architects, among others.

Quote of note

“The Ritz-Carlton Residences, The Woodlands is a first-of-its-kind, ultra-luxury condo development on the shores of Lake Woodlands, and the demand we have seen has been nothing short of incredible as it continues to surpass expectations,” said Howard Hughes CEO David O’Reilly in a statement. “The project commenced its long-awaited pre-sales in late March and closed that first quarter with more than half of its residences pre-sold at prices per square foot never seen in the Houston market. Since that time, sales have continued at a solid pace and set all-time highs for the region. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Woodlands, we are also creating a vision for the next 50 years—anticipating evolving homebuyer preferences and providing our residents and tenants with the highest quality of life in a community with an unprecedented 35% of its acreage permanently dedicated to open green space.”
