1. Texas Children's opens hospital in The Woodlands

Residents of south Montgomery County have access to a new health care option as of last week when Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands celebrated its grand opening at 17580 I-45 S. The new hospital offers pediatric care with outpatient and inpatient services as well as an emergency center. The inpatient tower features the area’s only dedicated pediatric emergency center with 25 patient rooms, 32 acute care beds, four operating rooms, 12 radiology suites and 28 critical care rooms.

2. Winery to open in July

Gadela Wines, a new winery and tasting room, is set to open this July just south of The Woodlands at 8311 Ginger Drive, Spring. The winery will open with white wine varieties, including an iced wine, and add red wines to its repertoire as the production process is complete. 3. Community college nursing degree bill passes Senate

Senate Bill 2118, which would allow LSCS to offer a baccalaureate nursing program if signed into law, was passed by the Senate and has been received by the House as of last Wednesday. The bill is authored by state Sen. Kel Seliger, R-Amarillo.

4. New council members voted to Shenandoah City Council seats

Voters in Shenandoah elected a new slate of city council members on Saturday. Ted Fletcher, Byron Bevers and Charlie Bradt were elected to serve on the council in three close races. The closest race was the Position 2 seat, where two votes separated Fletcher and incumbent John Houston. All election results are unofficial until canvassed.
