The project was awarded to the lowest bidder, Bleyl and Associates, in the amount of $1.4 million. Phase 1 construction is expected to begin in late November and should be completed by June 2017, City Administrator Greg Smith said.
There is no set timeline for the remaining project phases at press time.
Upon completion, the $2.3 million project will extend David Memorial Drive from where it dead-ends at Shenandoah Park Drive to Hwy. 242.
“This extension will be a new north-south connector that will provide relief for residents traveling north from the east side of I-45 in Shenandoah and in Oak Ridge North," Smith said.
With part of the construction site listed as wetlands by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the council also unanimously awarded a $78,000 bid to Gin City Restoration, LLC for wetlands mitigation.
The project is funded by the Shenandoah Municipal Development District.
