The Shenandoah City Council has approved Coastline Rail Engineering, a Spring-based company, for its I-45 redevelopment zone storm sewer extension project for a total of $367,775.50, an amount officials said is well below what was slated for the project.

What to know

Interim Public Works Director Rual Porras told council at the Jan. 14 meeting that 11 bids were received Dec. 16 for the project. Porras said the project will consist of approximately 1,782 linear feet of storm sewer extension, including manholes, inlets, and concrete work, providing drainage to the future redevelopment area of the city.

The project will be at Shenandoah Drive and Research Forest Drive, per the agenda packet.

The city saved $314,024 on the estimated project amount, Porras said.
  • Current funding: $750,000
  • Design cost: $68,200
  • Low bidder: $367,775.50
"This project could have easily gone over $800,000," Porras said.

Council also approved members of the Shenandoah Tourism Advisory Board, an advisory council that will make recommendations to John Mayner, director of the city's convention and visitor bureau Visit Shenandoah, about promotional opportunities. The board was approved at the Sept. 24 meeting, as previously reported by Community Impact.

A total of nine members will be on the board. The members as of Jan. 14 are:

  • Tonda Harris, director of sales, Hyatt House
  • Jessie Dickerson, executive director of brand, Goode Co. Restaurants
  • Bob Knight, at-large member
  • Mike McLeod, at-large member
  • John Mayner
  • Jim Pollard, City Council member
  • Frank W. Robinson, City Council member
The advisory board members include representatives from the lodging, food, beverage and retail industries operating in the city. Mayner said a response from the hospital industry in the area has yet to be received.
