Sales tax revenue is projected to make up 74% of Shenandoah’s general fund revenue, for a total of $8.9 million compared to $8.8 million for the previous year, according to the city’s proposed operating budget. Revenue from property taxes is projected to increase to $700,000 from $623,000 the previous year.
The police department makes up one-third of proposed expenses for FY 2025-26, with a budget of $4.3 million, up from $4.1 million the previous year, according to city documents. Other projected departmental budgets included fire services, which could increase from $2 million to $2.1 million, and public works, which could increase from $1.18 million to $1.22 million, city officials said.
Director of Public Works Joseph Peart, Chief of Police Troye Dunlap and City Administrator Kathie Reyer presented the individual department budgets at the meeting.
The 2024-25 tax rate was $0.1421 per $100 valuation, as previously reported by Community Impact.
What’s next
The deadline to adopt the budget is Sept. 10, but it could potentially be adopted as early as Aug. 27, Reyer said.
