The second annual Overdose Awareness Day event sponsored by the Montgomery County Overdose Prevention Endeavor will be held in The Woodlands on Aug. 28, including remarks from a variety of speakers, according to a news release from the organization.
The event will take place from 4-8 p.m. at The Loft Building of The Woodlands Methodist Church, 9201 Grogans Mill Road, The Woodlands, and is free to attend, according to M-COPE.
The event is slated to beginwith a memorial walkway display, a free light dinner and resources available from local experts in topics relating to overdose awareness. A Narcan demonstration is at 5:30 p.m., and free supplies will be available while supplies last, according to organizers. The scheduled speakers include Gov. Greg Abbott as the headlining speaker for the event. Additional speakers include Chief James Campbell of the Montgomery County Hospital District; Danny Looney, founder of Rock Bottom Hope; Dr. Crystal Collier, speaking on grief following death from substance use; Chris Crawford, speaking on families dealing with addiction; and Dr. Joy Alonzo, speaking on Narcan.
