Mixed-use development property Metropark Square in Shenandoah will begin expanding into the second phase of construction this April.

According to Daniel Moon, vice president of developer Sam Moon Group, construction for the Metropark One Luxury Apartments is scheduled to begin in April.

The apartments will feature 324 units and have one- to three-bedroom options available for future tenants, Moon said.

Moon said the apartment complex will be completed by the end of 2023 with tenants moving in by early 2024.

The Sam Moon Group was finalizing financing for the apartment complex’s construction in early January, he said.

Moon noted the coronavirus pandemic has slowed bringing new tenants to the mixed-use development, though two new businesses, Crawfish Cafe and Daiso Japan, have announced plans to open this year.

“Demand has picked up dramatically over the last six months, and we are consistently receiving new tenant inquiries,” Moon said.

The second phase will largely consist of the Metropark One Luxury Apartments, and future developments will consist of two more phases, according to the developer. Moon said additional phases of luxury apartments will bring the development to total 900 units. Additional future phases of retail and two more hotels will complete the 70-acre development, he said.

Plans were announced January 2021 to begin work later in the year on the water, drainage and sewer systems beginning around June.

Shenandoah Mayor Ritch Wheeler said the city has been awaiting the next stage of the project.

“We think this project will fit in perfectly with the vibe and the atmosphere that Metropark has established,” he said. “This will give people who want to move to Shenandoah a lifestyle option we simply didn’t offer before.”
