1. Houston Premium Outlets expands retail lineup with designer store, bar
The Houston Premium Outlets announced the upcoming openings of Michael Kors Mens and Ales & Wines in an Aug. 24 release. Both stores have plans to open this summer. The Houston Premium Outlets also recently opened Under Amour Factory House.

Montgomery County commissioners approved Labor Day overtime exemptions for two law enforcement agencies Aug. 20 following a tense discussion over how much control elected officials should have over their departmental budgets.
The court also advanced flood mitigation work along several San Jacinto River tributaries. In a separate meeting, the Montgomery County Toll Road Authority awarded a nearly $6 million road contract.

The Cy-Fair board of trustees was slated to consider approving Superintendent Doug Killian’s 2025-25 evaluation during an. Aug. 26 special-called board meeting. Texas Education Code states the board of trustees must evaluate the superintendent using two options. According to Texas Education Code, these options include using the commissioner of education's recommended process and criteria, or utilizing a board approved process and performance criteria developed by the district alongside district- and campus-level committees.

4. Magnolia ISD officially approves tax rate at Aug. 24 public tax hearing
At its Aug. 24 public tax hearing, the Magnolia ISD board of trustees approved the new property tax rate and budget for fiscal year 2026-27. The newly approved tax rate is lower than the previously approved tax rate due to the recently passed 2026 bond.

5. The Woodlands Township slates $600K for sports facility study
During a budget workshop discussion on Aug. 20, The Woodlands Township board of directors discussed the potential for a partnership with Conroe ISD on a multi-use indoor sportsplex that could be located in Bear Branch Park or another one of the township’s large parks. The board approved allocating $600,000 to research options for the facility in the fiscal year 2027 budget.

6. The Woodlands approves $50M Houston deal as city delays vote
The Woodlands Township voted 7-0 to approve the third amendment of the Regional Participation Agreement between the Township and the city of Houston. Houston officials delayed their vote an the agreement that would permanently eliminate the possibility of Houston annexing The Woodlands.
