Meeting documents show an executive assistant position was included in the budget five years ago, but the position was never filled after the previous assistant was promoted. Director of Public Works Joseph Pearts said due to increasing workloads and a busy year ahead, the city needs to bring the position back.
“We’ve been trying to push everyone to be as efficient as possible, but now the workload has just gotten to be too big,” Council Member Ron Raymaker said. “I think we have enough work to justify the position and bring it back.”
The council unanimously approved the addition of the position, which will have a salary of $55,492.29.
The City Council also granted a food and beverage retail sales permit to Graze Craze, a charcuterie board and box business planning to open in The Woodlands at 1500 Research Forest Drive, Shenandoah.
Surreal Creamery, a new ice cream shop, also planning to open at 1500 Research Forest Drive, Shenandoah, was granted a convenience sales and personal services special-use permit. Opening dates for the two businesses were not immediately available.
The next City Council meeting will be held after the new year on Jan. 11.
