The Woodlands Township board of directors met last night for its first July meeting. Here's what residents need to know:

1. The township board of directors will meet July 26 for a planning session to discuss the township's plans for possible incorporation.

"What we're going to do is start off with a review of what we did [during] incorporation planning, and three major items that we'll be talking about at that meeting will be the changes that occurred in the state statute and how it will impact The Woodlands in the 2017 session; we will be talking about a revised fact sheet regarding incorporation; and we'll also be reviewing a draft of an [request for quotation] for consulting services," township General Manager Don Norrell said. "And then the last item on the agenda will be the board will determine timing, what next steps will be, that sort of thing."

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. and is open to the public.

2. Following a partial opening earlier this summer, remodeling work on the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park is continuing, with a projected completion in early fall.

Purchased from the YMCA in May 2016, the center has already undergone some renovations, but work is still needed on The Lodge building.

"Once we have it remodeled, we'll have a grand opening for it sometime in September," Norrell said.

3. Budget workshops for the upcoming fiscal year are expected to begin Aug. 14, with five half-days scheduled for board discussion. The board will vote on the township's tax rate as well as any improvement projects for the next year.
