WHAT WE REPORTED: In a 6-3 vote, the Sugar Land Planning and Zoning Commission sent a recommendation to the City Council on Nov. 14 for an update to the city’s Land Use Plan. One detail of the plan that sparked much conversation involved a 12 percent cap on multifamily housing developments, which the planning and zoning commission requested be removed in its recommendation to the council.

THE LATEST: During a Dec. 5 City Council meeting, Mayor Joe Zimmerman recommended the plan be sent back to the P&Z commission and the Land Use Advisory Committee to define the 12 percent multifamily housing cap and how that will blend with the city’s business community.

WHAT’S NEXT: No deadline was set for the P&Z commission and Land Use Advisory Committee, but the groups will work together to revise the plan to be sent back to the mayor and City Council.
