The gist
Launched May 1, a new obstetrics and gynecology program has joined the St. Luke’s Health-Sugar Land Hospital's Family Birthing Center at 1317 Lake Pointe Parkway, Sugar Land. The program brings six new OB/GYNs on-site 24/7, said Freemon Walker, director of hospital operations at St. Luke's Health-Sugar Land Hospital.
“Our hospital-based OB/GYN physicians will help enhance patient safety, and improve the coordination and efficiency of care,” he said in an email. “They will not replace the care of a patient’s regular physician, but they will provide peace of mind to our patients since an OB/GYN will be available at a moment’s notice to step in to provide care.”
The details
Walker said St. Luke’s Sugar Land hospital added the new program to:
- Provide care in times of emergency prior to the arrival of a patient’s own physician
- Support the care of high-risk pregnancy patients
- Deliver babies for patients who don’t have an obstetrician
What they’re saying
Maternal Medical Director Dr. Jamie Hernandez said the Family Birthing Center and OB/GYN program expansion offers more ways to support the community while safely giving birth.
“We work with our community’s OB/GYNs, family physicians doing obstetrical work and certified nurse midwives to enhance continuity of care for pregnant women, new mothers and their infants,” Hernandez said in the release. “The hospitalist program underscores our commitment to quality care in our Family Birthing Center.”
