Missouri City cancels construction contract for field operations center

The background

The $6.3 million project was initially approved by City Council in August 2024, but a notice to proceed was not issued until December 2024 with an expected completion date of mid-December 2025, per agenda documents.

However, the project saw several change orders due to changes in scope, field conditions and schedule impacts during the process, including:

• Change order No. 1, which increased the cost by $1.27 million and added 30 calendar days
• Change order No. 2, which increased the cost by $238,468 and added 84 calendar days

The changes brought the total project cost to nearly $7.81 million with an expected completion date of April 7, 2026.

About the project

Community Impact previously reported the 22,000-square-foot building— located across from City Hall—will replace the current facility at the same location and will include:

• An administration area
• A four-bay garage with storage space
• Landscaping and irrigation

Additionally, the facility will have built-in shell space on the second floor for build-out in the future, officials previously said.
