After a $5,000 donation from the Sugar Land Legacy Foundation, Sugar Land’s City Park will be home to a freedom swing, or a swing designed to be accessible to all children—despite potential differences in abilities.

City Park will be the second park in the city to have qualified Americans with Disabilities Act playground equipment once its freedom swing is installed—with the first being in First Colony Park. The swing will be a standalone installment and will not replace any existing equipment. After its installation, the swing will qualify the city to meet National Recreation and Park Association's Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.

The donation for the swing originally came to the Sugar Land Legacy Foundation from the Amy & Gary Becker Foundation.

According to city officials, the Burke brand swing is expected to be installed sometime this summer.
