Fort Bend County Commissioners Court is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Landmark Community Center on June 5. Following the ceremony, guest will be able to tour the recently-renovated facility.

Located at 100 Louisiana Street, Missouri City, the gymnasium was originally built in 1935 as part of the former Missouri City High School.

Fort Bend County acquired the gym from Fort Bend ISD in 2016, and the $4.6 million restoration—which included the creation of a new lobby, basketball rims, a fitness center, a game center, a juice and coffee bar, a meeting space, and a museum—was funded in part through the county's 2015 facilities bond.

“We felt this was a unique opportunity to save a piece of local history, and our plans are to turn this building into a community center,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Grady Prestage said in a press release.
