With 50.27% of the vote, incumbent Jennifer Lane has won the May 7 race for Sugar Land City Council At-large Position 2, according to unofficial voting results from Fort Bend County.

As of 7:33 a.m., May 8, Fort Bend County is reporting early, absentee and election day vote totals, with 65 of 65 vote centers reporting.

Lane won the race with 3,966 votes, followed by Farha Ahmed with 2,696 votes, or 34.17% of the vote. Candidate Scott Schultz received 1,227 votes, or 15.55% of the vote.

Lane has served as mayor pro tem and council member since she was elected to the council in May 2020, according to the city of Sugar Land website. Lane is a lifetime resident of Fort Bend County and has nearly 10-years of experience as a Human Resource Administrator, working in industries that include the arts, manufacturing, software and consulting, and the medical field.


Because the city of Sugar Land operates under the council-manager form of government, City Council members have the power to appoint the city manager, who acts as the chief executive officer of the government, according to the city’s website. In addition, City Council has the power to approve the annual budget, establish city policy and serve as a legislative body.

Incumbent Jennifer Lane maintains a strong lead in the May 7 race for Sugar Land City Council at-large Position 2 at 50.27% of the vote, though it remains too early to say that the race will not head to a runoff election, according to early voting data provided by Fort Bend County.


As of 11:06 p.m., Fort Bend County is reporting early, absentee and election day vote totals.

As of 8:05 p.m., Fort Bend County is reporting early and absentee vote totals. None of Fort Bend County's 65 polling locations are reporting in.

Lane leads with 2,668 votes, followed by Farha Ahmed with 1,650 votes, or 32.43% of the votes. Candidate Scott Schultz has received 770 votes, or 15.13% of the votes.
