Q&A: Get to know the candidates running for Congressional District 2

Why are you running for this position?

I’m running so my grandchildren can pursue the American Dream we grew up with. In the Texas House, I built a reputation of delivering results, including securing billions for border security and passing legislation that mandates dyslexic students have a pathway to reading. Now I’ll take that fight to Congress.

What do you see as the greatest challenge for Texas in the next 5 years?

Continued illegal immigration and the strain it puts on our resources, schools, and public safety remains our greatest challenge. We must secure the border permanently, not just for four years, and ensure Texas’ explosive growth doesn’t outpace our infrastructure, water supply, and community resources.

How will you ensure your constituents receive the resources they need in a redrawn congressional district?

I’ve represented much of this community for years in the Texas House, so I know these neighborhoods and their needs firsthand. My office prioritizes accessibility – my personal cell number is listed above – and I’ve already begun working with local officials to ensure every resident in Congressional District 2 is served.

What is needed to balance growth and affordability in Texas?

As a small business owner, I’ve lived the burden of overregulation firsthand. Texas needs to cut the red tape that drives up housing costs and strangles entrepreneurs, so families can afford homes and small businesses like mine can thrive. Government should get out of the way, not stand in it.

What projects are most important for Congress to focus on for the future of Texas?

Congress must permanently secure our Southern Border through legislation and prioritize American graduates and workers over the H1-B foreign laborers. Additionally, we must cut red tape and ease regulatory burdens so Texans can afford homes, build businesses, and raise their families here.

Why are you running for this position?

As a father, a businessman, and a taxpayer, I understand the frustrations that families are facing - a national debt growing out of control, and the cost of living becoming unaffordable. My priorities are: never spend more than we can afford, and ensure everyone has an opportunity to support their families.

What do you see as the greatest challenge for Texas in the next 5 years?

Our growing national debt. This will shatter our children’s future as our budgets are consumed by interest payments and the inevitable result will be massive cuts to essential programs and services. If we do not tackle our debt problem, the American Dream won’t exist for the next generation.

How will you ensure your constituents receive the resources they need in a redrawn congressional district?

Robust constituent services. I will have offices throughout the district, in-person and virtual townhalls, pop-up offices and services, while partnering with local groups and institutions throughout the district. I will listen to my constituents and I will be responsive. I am very bipartisan and will represent everyone in this district.

What is needed to balance growth and affordability in Texas?

We need to keep taxes low for middle class families, raise the minimum wage, close tax loopholes for the ultra-wealthy, and cut the deficit and debt. Congress lacks the courage to confront these growing problems. It’s our only hope to ensure a prosperous future for our children and grandchildren.

What projects are most important for Congress to focus on for the future of Texas?

We need to do all we can to tackle the cost of living. Too many Texans are living paycheck to paycheck. We need affordable healthcare for all. We must also protect against flooding. We need funds to dredge the San Jacinto River and to build new floodgates on Lake Houston.
