Chicago-founded hot dog joint Portillo's will open its first Houston-area restaurant in Richmond this month.

Set to open in The Grand at Aliana shopping center, Portillo's is known for its Chicago-style street food, according to an Oct. 15 news release.

Signature menu items include Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, crispy crinkle cut French fries and homemade chocolate cake, per the release.

What to expect

The 7,700-square-foot fast-casual restaurant will have a double drive-thru and its Kitchen 23 design, which features self-serve beverages and a grab-and-go retail area, according to the release.


The interior follows a southwest garage theme and will seat nearly 170 guests inside with an additional 50 guests on the outdoor patio.

The Richmond opening marks the seventh location in Texas, according to the release. Since 1993, the brand has grown from a hot dog stand to include more than 85 restaurants across 10 states.

Portillo's Vice President Michael Portillo will be on-site for the late October ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new location, per the release. Portillo’s will present its local charity partner, Mamie George Community Center, with a check in support of its services.
