Jamaica Pon Di Road has set an opening date for its new Missouri City location, officials announced in a Sept. 6 Instagram post.
The new location will join the brand’s Houston location at 2213 S. Victory Drive.
On the menu
The eatery is known for its oxtail cheesesteak, jerk chicken, meat patties, drunken plantains and egg rolls, according to its website. The restaurant also offers catering services with jerk and curry wings, oxtails, and catfish.
Bottles of the restaurant's signature mango and jerk sauces are also available for purchase.
About the restaurant
Gareth Powell, known in Houston as Chef G, attended culinary school in Jamaica, where he was born, according to the restaurant website. In 2016, he opened a food truck and eventually opened a dine-in location in a light blue, house-like building in Acres Homes.
What they're saying
Director of Operations Ashley Richmond said she chose the Missouri City and Sugar Land area because of its diversity and because a lot of their customers are from the area.
“We wanted to be in a place where we saw a lot of different faces,” Richmond said.
She said the Jamaica Pon Di Road owners always want to be a part of the community, so they partner with local organizations. She said they plan to open in Missouri City with that same energy.
“What brings people in is the food, and then they stay for the community,” Richmond said.
One more thing
The Sept. 19 grand opening will feature a DJ and giveaways, according to the restaurant’s Instagram post.
