Staff at Majestkids Playland are looking for more ways to keep children on their feet. After a year in operation, the Sugar Land business expanded its offerings for elementary school-age children.
Majestkids Playland opened in December 2015 at 4031 Hwy. 59, Ste. 620, Sugar Land. Founder and co-owner Fernando Noguera said he got the idea for Majestkids Playland after his children—now 3 and 5 years old—were born. He was having trouble finding a place for them to play where they would not get trampled by older, larger children.
He said he wanted to encourage small children to play and bring families together for more hours in the day.
“Kids and families are lacking in quality time,” he said. “I don’t think we have that connection anymore.”
Noguera, who has a background in interior design, said his landlords were skeptical of renting to a first-time business owner. But he said they liked his 3-D renderings and business plan enough to give him a shot.
Noguera’s stepfather, David Corbin, also had confidence in Noguera when he signed on as co-owner. Corbin works full time in the oil and gas industry but said he handles the financial and legal aspects of the business while Noguera is at the site most days.
“I would say the best way to describe [it]—he’s like the [chief operating officer] and I’m like the [chief executive officer],” Corbin said. “The way he’s painted the walls and everything he’s done, he has a great aptitude for that. But the other thing he’s impressed me [with] is his problem-solving abilities.”
Within about 10,000 square feet, Majestkids has among its offerings a cedar climbing structure, a bounce pillow—which he said is safer than a traditional trampoline—a 6-foot-deep foam pit, interlocking blocks and an interactive projector that displays games on the floor. These are designed for children shorter than 45 inches.
The place also offers events, such as magicians, petting zoos and princess performers. Birthday parties and field trips are also welcome at Majestkids Playland, and the play place also has a nursery for diaper changing or breastfeeding.
In December, the business expanded to include an obstacle course styled after “American Ninja Warrior.”
