A new chapter
The group kicked off their fundraiser in May with a $20,000 donation toward renovations at the Barbara Bush branch library, aiming to collect the rest from local companies and individuals, as previously reported by Community Impact.
Thanks to about $63,000 in contributions, The Barbara Bush Library Friends are preparing for work in the library to be done, said Susan Greer, past president and current member, in an April 8 email. The first stages of the project will include the installation of:
- A new tween area for children ages 9-12 to hang out and enjoy hands-on learning
- New seating in the lobby
- An electronic entrance display
- Decor for the Earl Elliott meeting room
If the Barbara Bush Library Friends can fundraise the full amount, other improvements slated for the library will include:
- An area educating patrons about the history of the Library and the Friends organization
- Improvements to the upstairs adult library area, staff area and the Al and Polly's in-library used bookstore
- The addition of an all-weather bulletin board outside for community use
With about 150 members, the Barbara Bush Library Friends—formerly The Cypress Creek Friends of the Library—has supported the local library through volunteering and fundraising initiatives for about 50 years, as previously reported.
