Amid overcrowding in animal shelters nationwide, Bissell Pet Foundation is sponsoring reduced adoption fees of $50 or less from July 11-31, officials announced via a news release July 11. The national Empty the Shelters event will include more than 250 shelters across the U.S., including Harris County Pets.

According to the release, Harris County Pets will be offering $0 adoption fees for all animals throughout the duration of the event. When looking to adopt, officials encourage potential pet parents to do their research about the pet and the adoption requirements.

Euthanasia of homeless dogs is up 22% in the first quarter of 2022, according to Bissell Pet Foundation. In response, the foundation created its largest program to date to get animals into homes by partnering with 443 animal welfare organizations across 47 states.
The Bissell Pet Foundation is a nonprofit organization with the goal of reducing the number of animals in shelters. The organization has helped more than 96,000 pets find homes since 2016.
