A number of road projects are underway or preparing to enter construction across the Cypress-Fairbanks area. Here is the latest information on eight projects in the region, according to updates from Harris County and the Texas Department of Transportation.
Upcoming projects
1. Hwy. 290 resurfacing
Project: The Texas Department of Transportation plans to resurface and rehabilitate Hwy. 290 from Badtke Road to Telge Road.
Update: According to officials with TxDOT, bids will begin to be accepted in September, with construction starting soon after.
2. Grand Parkway widening
Project: The Grand Parkway is set to be widened from four to six lanes according to TxDOT officials. The project will span from West Road to I-10.
Update: Construction has kicked off for the widening project, according to TxDOT’s project tracker.
Ongoing projects
3. Jones Road asphalt rehabilitation
Project: This project will repair the asphalt on Jones Road from Cypress North Houston Drive to Grant Road. The project will also repair Woodedge Drive from Jones Road to FM 1960.
Update: Work is ongoing along Woodedge Drive and Jones Road to repair asphalt.
4. Cypress Creek Estates Subdivision improvements
Project: This project will provide subdivision drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction for increased drainage capacity, reduced flood risk and reduced long-term maintenance costs in the Cypress Creek Estates subdivision.
Update: Construction is underway in the subdivision for the drainage improvements
5. Barwood subdivision improvements
Project: This project will provide the Barwood subdivision with drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction throughout the subdivision to increase drainage capacity, reduce flood risk and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Update: Construction is underway on the project; however, it is now expected to be complete by the end of the year.
6. Cypress North Houston Road
Project: This project will widen Cypress North Houston Road from a two- to four-lane concrete boulevard with raised medians and an underground storm sewer system. The project also includes new or upgraded traffic signals at Autumn Mills Road, Misty Moss Lane and Perry Road.
Update: This project is being overseen by Pape-Dawson Engineers, and construction started over the summer.
7. Grant Road widening
Project: This project will widen a two-lane road to a four-lane boulevard from Telge Road to Shaw Road.
Update: The project is in the design phase.
8. Greenhouse Road
Project: The new Greenhouse Road underpass will include an expanded overpass on Hwy. 290, a tunnel structure underneath the Union Pacific railroad and additional sidewalks and pedestrian crossings.
Update: Officials broke ground on the project on May 19, kicking off construction for the long-awaited project.
