On Aug. 10, SISD students were welcomed to the newly renovated and relocated SLA—a middle school of choice located at 12625 River Laurel Drive, Houston—for the start of the 2023-24 school year.
SISD leaders celebrated the opening of SLA at its new location with a ribbon-cutting on Oct. 26, according to an Oct. 27 news release from the district. Attendees were invited to tour the campus and view the new additions, which include a renovated gym; new science classrooms; a new running track; a new stage; and spaces for art programs, and career and technology education programs.
“We are reflecting on our present: how far we’ve come and the achievements we’ve attained,” said Kevin Banks, founding and current SLA principal, in a statement. “We are celebrating our future: entry into our new building, and the SLA scholars and staff that will take us to the next level.”
The school was previously located at 14450 TC Jester Blvd., Houston.
