Early voting begins April 22 for the May 4 elections, which will feature races primarily from cities and school districts, as well as some bond propositions.

Here’s what voters need to know about what’s on the ballot and where they can vote during the early voting period.

What’s happening?

Early voting will run until April 30 for the May 4 election, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website. Voters in Brazoria County—both during early voting and election day May 4—can vote at any polling place in the county open for the election.

According to Brazoria County’s website, the following locations are available to voters interested in casting their ballots early:
  • Alvin Library, 105 S. Gordon St., Alvin
  • East Annex Building in Room 144, 524 E. Mulberry St., Angleton
  • Brazoria Library, 620 S. Brooks St., Brazoria
  • Freeport Library, 410 Brazosport Blvd., Freeport
  • Doris Williams Civic Center. 333 Hwy. 332 E., Lake Jackson
  • Manvel Annex, 7313 Corporate Drive, Manvel
  • Tom Reid Library, 3522 Liberty Drive, Pearland
  • West Pearland Community Center, 2150 Countryplace Parkway, Pearland
  • West Pearland Library, 11801 Shadow Creek Parkway, Pearland
  • Sweeny Community Center, 205 Ashley Wilson Road, Sweeny
  • Precinct 4 Building No. 2, 121 N. 10th St., West Columbia
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 22-27 and again April 29-30, according to Brazoria County’s website.


The specifics

In Brazoria County, several school districts and cities have trustee and city council races, while a couple are also pitching bonds to their constituents, according to sample ballot material from the county.

Alvin ISD, for example, has four trustee positions on the ballot—including one unexpired term, according to the sample ballot. Pearland ISD also has three, including an unexpired term as well.

Brazosport ISD and Columbia-Brazoria ISD also have trustee elections, along with Sweeny ISD, according to the county.


Both Pearland ISD and Sweeny ISD each have a pair of bonds up for voter approval, according to the county. Pearland ISD’s two bond propositions total $105 million—broken down into propositions for $75 million and $30 million—and Sweeny ISD has two $21 million bond propositions.

On the city side, the cities of Alvin, Angleton, Danbury, Freeport, Hillcrest, Holiday Lakes, Lake Jackson, Manvel, Pearland, Quintana, Sweeny and West Columbia, and the villages of Jones Creek and Surfside Beach all have general elections for their city councils, according to the county.

Among that list, Danbury and Brookside also have measures for a local sales tax, according to the sample ballot. Brazoria County also has a general election for three places in its appraisal district.

While not on the Brazoria County ballot, Friendswood will have a vote to renew a sales tax on Galveston County’s ballot, according to Galveston County’s website.
