What are your priorities if elected?

When I am re-elected, my focus will remain on the success of our students and teachers. Our board should work to ensure we provide an extraordinary learning environment. The responsibility of preparation mainly lies within our public school system, and our board goals should reflect a desire for long-term success.

What changes, if any, would you make to the district’s budget?

Alvin ISD continues to be good stewards of our resources and I don’t anticipate any change with that. I realize there is a pressing need to have serious consideration for how our teachers and professionals are compensated. They do the heavy lifting everyday, and we are always mindful of that.

What programming, if any, would you like to see changed, adjusted and/or added?

Data is key to measuring any progress. I intend to continue working with our trustees to monitor scores and performance of our district’s programs. As uncomfortable as this may be, if the data in any area of the district shows a disparity, the board should execute a plan for improvement.

What do you think can be done to help the district keep up with its growth?

Growth and comfort never coexist. As a board we should be able to use data and effectively plan for the future. It is important for us to keep a 20-year vision in mind when doing so. The changes we make today will have a lasting effect on future generations.

Would you support the district going out for a bond within the next year?

Yes. It is our obligation to maintain a safe and effective learning environment. Our board recently approved a committee to evaluate our growth and facilities. This is important to maintain good student-teacher ratios and provide improvements where necessary across the district.
