With the deadline to file to run for local races coming Feb. 16, Alvin ISD’s board of trustees approved calling a May 4 general and special trustee election at its Feb. 13 board meeting.

What’s happening?

According to district agenda documents, the following positions are open for the general and special trustee election:
  • Position 1
  • Position 2
  • Position 3
  • Position 7
These positions are held by AJ Johnson, Cory Scott, Cheryl Harris and Gabe Garza, respectively, according to district documents. There are seven members on the AISD board.

The context

Positions 1, 2 and 3 are up for general election, which determines who will get a seat for a normal three-year term.

Garza was appointed in 2023 after trustee Vivian Scheibel had to resign due to moving out of the district. The special election determines who will get the seat for the unexpired, two-year term.
