Staffing positions for Barbara Bennett Elementary and two Iowa Colony schools could open soon if Alvin ISD’s board of trustees approves the opening for the positions at its Feb. 13 meeting.

What’s happening?

To prepare for the openings of Barbara Bennett Elementary School and Iowa Colony Junior High School, additional staffing positions have been requested to allow time for “extensive planning and hiring” as the schools’ openings are approaching for the 2024-25 school year, according to district documents.

Iowa Colony High School will also be considered for additional staffing, as 12th grade will be added to the high school beginning in the 2024-25 school year, according to district agenda documents.

While the specific additional staffing positions are currently unspecified for Barbara Bennett Elementary School and Iowa County Junior High School, an additional administrator, counselor and multiple teaching positions are being requested for Iowa Colony High School, according to the district documents.

More details

The openings of Barbara Bennett Elementary School and Iowa Colony Junior High School are some of the last projects from the district’s 2018 bond. In preparing for their opening, the district’s board also approved a new set of boundaries for the district’s elementary and middle schools in December.

The new boundaries stem from AISD’s expanding district. Under the previous boundaries, various schools were expected to reach capacity over the next 10 years, and seven schools were expected to hit capacity by the 2024-25 school year, according to district data.
