With no discussion, Friendswood City Council during its July 11 meeting unanimously approved an agreement with Friendswood ISD for increased patrolling in school zones during the 2022-23 school year.

Five police officers provided by the city will staff school zones during the morning and afternoon school zone times at Westwood Elementary, Windsong Intermediate, Bales Intermediate and Friendswood Junior High School, according to agenda documents.

FISD will pay for school zone coverage based upon the actual number of student school days at a rate of $33 per hour per officer. The agreement is conditional on a sufficient number of officers being available, with responding to emergencies a priority, the documents read.

The city will also provide marked police cars to support officers' traffic control efforts.

Friendswood and FISD have collaborated on providing school zone officers for over 20 years, according to agenda documents.
