The Galveston County School Consortium is made up of school districts in the county, including Friendswood ISD. The districts wrote down a list of legislative priorities they will present to local representatives in December. Here are some of the priorities:

1. School safety funding
A school safety-related priority includes a school safety allotment given to districts by the state to fund the district's safety needs. Another option would be to allow districts to transfer money from the interest and sinking budget to the maintenance and operations budget for safety needs without a tax rate election, the consortium said.

2. Student accountability
The consortium asks that the districts adopt a community-based accountability system, rather than the A-F rating system currently used.

3. School finance
One of the finance-related priorities includes that the state remodels the school finance system to rely less on recapture and property value increases.
