Galveston County’s population grew 16 percent from July 2010 to July 2018, according to estimates released April 18 by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Galveston County gained 46,583 residents during that time period. The population swelled from 291,307 to 337,890 from 2010 to 2018.

The county ranked No. 14 in Texas for growth over those eight years.

Domestic and international migration and natural increase all contributed to the overall gain. Most of the gain was from domestic migration of 29,486 people moving into the county. In addition, 4,555 stemmed from international migration. A natural increase of 12,289 contributed to population gains in the county.

Galveston County’s climbing numbers track with a trend for growth in Texas where Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land ranked as the fifth most populous metropolitan area, according to 2018 estimates.
