Alvin ISD began its interview process for superintendent April 7, meeting with the first three candidates, board member Brian Roberson said in a social media post.
The board expects to announce the finalist April 21, trustee Roberson said.
The background
The board of trustees was first informed of Nelson’s retirement at its Jan. 26 special meeting and began developing a timeline to identify candidates for the next superintendent. The board formally approved Nelson’s retirement at its Feb. 10 meeting, as previously reported by Community Impact.
To help guide the search, the district released a public questionnaire Feb. 18 and held a public meeting March 5, inviting residents to weigh in on the leadership qualities they would like to see in a new superintendent.

“As your trustee, I want to personally assure you that I am committed to identifying a strong instructional leader of high character,” Roberson said in the post. “We do not take this responsibility lightly. The selection of a superintendent is the most important decision a school board makes.”

The board will continue interviews April 8 with three additional candidates, followed by a final round April 9, Robertson said.
